@r43k3n, links seems interesting, but I prefer using either official images or building the images myself, and, not understand Polish, I have no means to check what I am even downloading there. Thanks anyway!


Thanks for the tutorial. It's much appreciated, however you skipped the part about making the backup of official firmware. This might cause troubles if someone will try to go back to stock firmware. I've seen posts on OpenWRT forum where users had much troubles with it.


It's September now, and I am wondering if there is any intent to provide a *factory.bin image for the EdgeRouter X. My assumption is that this would facilitate easily flashing LEDE from the stock firmware upgrade page.


Now back to the console connection. Press the enter key a few times, and the device will stop rebooting and instead present you with a basic CLI. From here we can set an IP address, and crucially the TFTP server address (your Mac) to download a fresh firmware image.

To install Wireguard on an EdgeRouter, first you need to find the proper installation package for your model. The following commands assume you are on a version 2 firmware, ideally one of the latest v2.0.9 builds. If you are still running a version 1.x firmware, either update your EdgeRouter first or find the correct package and URL on the Wireguard GitHub page.


At this point the tunnel is ready to test. You will need to download and install the Wireguard client application, and create a new tunnel. In this configuration file, you would define the user's Wireguard interface, using the user's private key you generated earlier. Then, you'd define the EdgeRouter side under the peer section, where you place the EdgeRouter's public key and public IP or DNS record.


The router will need to reboot shortly after the firmware has been updated. When it comes back up from the upgrade from version 1.2 to 1.3 you can log in and use the Web UI to upgrade to any version you like. I read that version 2 had bugs in it so I went with version 1.97.


I have a new EdgeRouter Lite with an old firmware (V1.2). Before I configure the router I did a firmware update to the latest version. The problem is I am getting update error via WebGUI (CLI), this is due to low available storage. Below are the steps that worked for me


The ERLite-3 has been around since 2013, still pictured in it's original plastic body on Amazon. They're made of metal now, and has gained a lot functionality ever since through regular firmware updates, see full history here. This "networking enthusiast" router has enjoyed a lot of popularity in the market, with mostly-favorable reviews on Amazon and on Ubiquiti's forum. I've personally owned two of these little $90 routers for about a year, one dedicated to my traveling home datacenter right, and the other used heavily full time by my entire family, with better reliability than every consumer router I've used before it.


The deployment overview will hopefully help newbies make this little metal box behave much more consumer-router-like. Don't bother configuring the router with the default firmware, update it first! All the steps are detailed below.


If your ERLite-3 is new, be sure to update the firmware first before bothering to configure anything at all! 1.9.1 is available here, with video that guides you through the simple firmware update process here, using a laptop/PC/mac directly attached to eth1.

I'm not finding a compelling reason (security or killer feature) that is luring me to move to 1.10.0 firmware anytime soon, but perhaps I'll test the next 1.10.x release on my second ER3-Lite that is mostly used for public vSphere 6.5U1 demos. Here's the forum anouncement thread:


I updated to NetWorx Version 6.1.1 64-bit installable, and it works quite nicely, with my home's upload and download speeds monitored live from up to 5 systems around my home, all covered by one well-worth-it $25 license, see also SoftPerfect's full set of utilities here that I admittedly haven't yet tested.


EdgeRouter routers with EdgeOS firmware version 2.0.9 and later support long passwords and can be used to establish a connection to our servers using the OpenVPN protocol. If you are using an older version of the firmware, please update it before following this guide. Instructions on how to update the router firmware can be found on the official Ubiquiti website.


You will now see the dashboard of the ERX. On the bottom, you will see a black menu bar with Alerts and System. Click on System and scroll down to Upgrade System Image. Upload the just downloaded firmware update. Uploading and installing the new firmware will take a couple of minutes. Just wait until you are asked to reboot the router.


If everything went right, then you should be able to access the internet through your EdgeRouter X. Before we start with configuring the SQM, we first need to know the real speed of your internet connection. Run another speed test on DSLReport.com. Write down the upload and download speed of your internet connection.


Run the speedtest on DSLReport.com again, you will now see that there is no buffer bloat and your rating should be an A or A+. If the buffer bloat is still too high, then you need to lower the up and download ratings.


We are pretty much done with the configuration of the EdgeRouter X. As always, make a backup of the configuration. In the Edge Router X, click on system (on the bottom of the screen), scroll a bit down and download a backup of the configuration.


Hello ruud, . Iam getting a edgerouter x from amazon for Christmas from my girlfriend, it is something I asked for because my connection suffers from 500ms+ bufferbloat on the upload and 256ms bufferbloat on the download. Can you give me a step by step setup on how to set up the edgerouter x to work with my xbox please? I will plug in to the edgerouter a tplink mesh via network cable. So as I see it/ one port for xbox one port for ap on the edgerouter. Will I have an open Nat out of the box I.e will upnp be enabled on the edgerouter? My connection is 80 down 20 up. I tested out DSL Reports speed test and was only able to get an A for buffer Bloat by cutting my download speed from over 200 to about 70 or so. Upload went from 24 to 21. Seems like a very large drop to get good scores but it seems to have my lag and buffering down a lot.


I have done the testing and I had to drop the download from over 200megabit/s down to 80 megabit/s to get an A grade on the Buffer Bloat Test. Should I be looking at something else causing the extra Buffer Bloat or is this just the price I have to pay to get Buffer Bloat under control?
